Tradier was founded on a simple but radical idea: the infrastructure of financial services shouldn’t be locked behind the walls of legacy institutions. It should be open, accessible, and powerful enough for anyone to build on, trade through, or innovate with.
We saw the problem from the inside.
Before Tradier existed, several of its founding team spent years working inside the traditional brokerage industry. They understood firsthand how the system worked — and more importantly, how much of it was holding people back.
The act of investing was locked within the four walls of legacy brokerage firms. If you wanted to offer a trading platform, build a digital advisory, or give your customers access to the markets, you had to rebuild the entire financial infrastructure yourself. That meant years of work and millions in capital before a single trade could be placed. Most people never even tried.
They saw what Stripe had done for payments and Twilio had done for communications — taking complex, legacy infrastructure and making it accessible through simple, modern APIs. The same thing needed to happen for financial services. So in 2012, they set out to build it.
